What's on Our Reading List

We spent Labor Day weekend digging into four new books by RHSB authors, all of which are now on sale! Here's a round-up:

True Prep by Lisa Birnbach (also the author of The Official Preppy Handbook) is a contemporary look at how the old guard of natural-fiber-loving, dog-worshipping, G&T-soaked preppies adapt to the new order of things. For more info and a look at some amazing preppy fashions, check out Birnbach's segment on Today.

James Ellroy's The Hilliker Curse, which New York magazine has named one of its "most anticipated fiction and nonfiction [books] of fall," is a raw, brutally candid memoir—as high intensity and as riveting as any of his novels—about his obsessive search for "atonement in women."

The Enough Moment by John Prendergast and Don Cheadle is an empowering and hopeful new book, as the authors reveal the steps being taken by engaged citizens—"Upstanders"—famous and unknown, here and abroad, to combat genocide, rape, and child soldierdom in Africa, and show how you can be a part of the movement. If you're in the L.A. area on September 10, catch the authors at the Miguel Contreras Learning Complex for their event, The Enough Moment: A Community Conversation with Don Cheadle and John Prendergast.

The Warmth of Other Suns by Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Isabel Wilkerson, chronicles The Great Migration—the decades-long migration of black citizens who fled the South in search of a better life. For this definitive work, Wilkerson interviewed more than a thousand people to describe how these American journeys unfolded, altering our cities, our country, and ourselves. Janet Maslin of The New York Times calls it "a landmark piece of nonfiction."
